I'm not certain when it started, but over the last few years, women have talked a lot about having a seat at the table. Sometimes they're talking about social situations where some groups appear closed off. Like the bus in Forrest Gump, all the seats are taken. Other times they're talking about boardroom tables where certain groups are often under-represented.
Today's verse in our Memory Verse Challenge reminds us that God's table has an infinite number of seats. Anyone and everyone is welcome when they call on His name.
While we're focusing on Romans 10:13, it's important to get the context of the verses in front of that one.
11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”[a]12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:11-13
To reserve our seat at God's table, all we must do is call on His name.
He's not limiting membership.
We don't have to be good enough or rich enough to earn our way in. Thank goodness for that. None of us would ever qualify.
We must only call on His name.
If you haven't confessed Him with your mouth and believed God raised Christ from the dead in your heart, I'd love to talk to you about it. His arms are open wide for you. He's reserved a place for you in heaven with blessings upon blessings. All you have to do is call upon His name.
For my fellow believers, allow this verse to give you peace and confidence. If you've called on His name, He has not forgotten you.
Memorize this verse with me this week. May it be a balm to your soul on the days your mind doubts your decisions. May it give you the confidence to share the gospel when you've been given a chance.
