The Call to Write

I started my writing journey twenty years ago. It's a long time to chase a dream. If it were just a dream, I don't know if I'd still be chasing it, but writing is a calling.
As I prayed about many things, including my future, I felt God calling me to write. It sounds a little hokey, but if you've ever heard that still, small voice, you know. he role of an angel. I wanted an actual speaking part, but instead, I stood on stage for over an hour every night lifting and lowering my hands. God pressed on my heart to spend this time where I was forced to be still and quiet, praying.
As I prayed about many things including my future, I felt God calling me to write. It sounds a little hokey, but if you've ever heard that still small voice, you know.
I countered back, "But God, what if no one wants to read it?"
His reply: "You write. I'll take care of the readers."
That was our agreement. I've fulfilled my part better some years than others. God has been faithful. Although only a few of you have read my books, the people who have needed to hear the message have had the books find their way to their TBR pile.
I won't lie. Spending hours writing novels that a handful of beta readers and a select few editors ever read is hard. Especially when others are finding success. But I don't begrudge them their success. They have answered the same call to write and made their own agreement.
Sometimes our callings don't turn out the way we expected, but they turn out the way He wants. Take heart in what you've been called to do. Don't compare your journey to others. God is faithful and will fulfill every promise.
